Tema: Past, Present and Future of Neurologic Physical Therapy

This course is more personal from someone who began her clinical career in 1973 and her research career in 1987. I use the Special Therapeutic Exercise Project (STEP) conferences as a framework for the Past. I use the July 2016 IV STEP conference held at The Ohio State University, to reflect on the Present organized around the four P’s: prevention, prediction, plasticity, and participation. Based on recent basic and clinical research, I identify current trends in the practice of neurorehabilitation and include my thoughts about the negative results of several recent clinical trials in rehabilitation medicine. Finally, I imagine the Future of neurorehabilitation for children and adults with movement disorders.
