Dramatically lit, Gray is shown wearing a dark suit, barely visible, with a white neck cloth. He wears grey hair, receding slightly, and tied back. Edward Whitaker Gray was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1779. Original: oil on canvas, 750x630mm. ca. 1800
