I use the background to help orientate myself to the negative spaces as I draw

a flower that is often given in the brides bouquet

draw with soft or chalk pastels on paper working across the surface and enjoying the dance of colours before me

The soil here was very cold and wet and has a particular smell to it too

Using some visual notes I had made on site I returned to the studio
